Vaggelis was a little hero for OLSC Thessaloniki branch. He was distinguished for his participation in the 34th Athens Marathon in 2016, in which he ran and finished in a wheelchair along with his coach, despite his mobility impairments. The sole protection from the cold was a red blanket with the badge of his beloved team.
Back then, in a quiet ceremony before a Liverpool’s premier league match, OLSC Thessaloniki had honoured him and his coach, Dimitris Spiridis, for the valuable life lesson and the love for the team. Vaggelis grew up with that love for Liverpool while his health problems continued. In 2021, Vaggelis needed a difficult operation. His hometown Giannitsa in Pella and all the members and friends of the OLSC supported him actively and emotionally. Unfortunately, after a ten-hour operation and despite the initial encouraging signs, our little hero, Vaggelis went to find peace with the angels in the sky.
Vaggelis, a true fighter, taught us a lot, in spite of the hardships he encountered. He was always happy, kind and generous. His legacy…the optimism and will for something better. His loss has brought sorrow not only to those who knew him personally, but also to those who learnt about him through his accomplishments.
Our heartfelt condolences to his family.
Rest in Peace our dearest Vaggelis.
